:: Moscow, Russia

:: "It is simply impossible not to notice that this attack was carried out on the same day that the agreement on the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah came into force. We strongly condemn this attack, in the vanguard of which are terrorists who are recognized as such by the UN Security Council. We draw attention to the fact that among them are many foreign fighters, including those from the former Soviet Union."

:: "We express solidarity with the leadership of Syria and its people. In this difficult situation, we reaffirm our commitment to the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Syria. We resolutely support the efforts of the Syrian authorities to counter terrorist groups and restore constitutional order."

Russia is a key ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and has provided him with military support since 2015 in the country's civil war.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed solidarity with Syria.

Zakharova said, without providing evidence, that the rebels -- including some from former Soviet countries -- had received drones from Ukraine and training in how to operate them.
