In total, the company sold just under 2.38 million vehicles worldwide in the fourth quarter, which is 4.9 percent less than the same period last year, according to a table published online on Monday. The performance was notably weaker in North America and China, where sales shrank by 17.4 percent in each region. In Western Europe, however, sales rose by 5.6 percent to 879,800 vehicles, and in Eastern Europe, figures climbed by 5.9 percent to 151,800 cars.
For the full year, global sales stood at 8.98 million vehicles, down 0.5 percent from the previous year. Volkswagen plans to release its official sales statistics on Monday afternoon.
