In commodities, Brent crude gained 1.8% to $97.66 a barrel, and WTI crude rose 2% to $99.80 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was down 2% to 45.27 euros a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield rose by 3 basis points to 3.017% from 2.988%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury climbed by 2 basis points to 4.299% from 4.281%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were up as Japan's Nikkei 225 index gained 1.8%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.6%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite climbed 0.5%.
