TSMC is set to mass produce 3-nanometer chips in Japan, marking a technological upgrade from its original production plan.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, the world's largest contract chip maker, had originally planned to produce less advanced chips in Kumamoto, Japan.
TSMC chairman C.C. Wei confirmed the plan after a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
