(Alliance News) - Stellantis is accelerating the electrification of its light commercial vehicles in Europe with a new commercial initiative aimed at tackling one of the main obstacles to electric adoption among businesses: the price, Milano Finanza reported Thursday.
The business unit dedicated to professional vehicles, Stellantis Pro One, has announced a campaign offering battery-electric vans at the same price as their corresponding diesel versions. The promotion, valid through the end of June 2026, covers the entire range of compact and mid-size vans across the group’s brands.
The initiative includes the Compact Van models Citroën Berlingo, Fiat Professional Doblò, Opel Combo, and Peugeot Partner as well as the Mid-Size Van models Citroën Jumpy, Fiat Professional Scudo, Opel Vivaro, and Peugeot Expert, MF continued.
Aligning prices between electric and diesel versions may squeeze margins in the short term, but at the same time could help boost sales of zero-emission models and make it easier to comply with European emissions targets.
From a technical standpoint, the models retain operational characteristics similar to their combustion counterparts: range of up to about 340 kilometers for compact vans and up to about 350 kilometers for mid-size vans, with a payload capacity between 800 kilograms and 1.5 tonnes.
As the daily reports, the cost of the initiative is difficult to estimate, but a comparison with Italian price lists shows the scale of the commercial effort. The electric Fiat E-Doblò starts at around EUR24,000 plus VAT, while the petrol or diesel Fiat Doblò is offered from EUR17,800 plus VAT: a difference of about EUR6,200 per vehicle.
In the mid-size segment, the Fiat E-Scudo starts at EUR28,400 plus VAT compared to EUR21,900 plus VAT for the diesel version, a gap of around EUR6,500.
In practice, for each electric van sold under the campaign, Stellantis could be offering a commercial discount of about EUR6,000-EUR6,500 compared to the equivalent diesel versions, reducing margins but increasing sales of zero-emission models and lowering the risk of EU emissions penalties from 2027.
