Snap Inc. (NYSE:SNAP) acquired Illumix, Inc. on June 4, 2026.
The acquisition is intended to boost Snap's augmented reality (AR) efforts and the development of its revamped Specs smartglasses. As part of the deal, Snap will integrate Illumix?s technology and platform and will retain the majority of Illumix?s staff. Illumix, founded in 2017, has built a proprietary spatial mapping and AR platform designed to create persistent and context-aware digital experiences in real-world environments, and is known for co-developing an AR version of the video game ?Five Nights at Freddy?s.?
