At the time of the incident, crew members and ground staff were on board, according to company reports; passengers had not yet boarded. The wide-body jet was scheduled to fly to Los Angeles. 'We are currently investigating the exact circumstances together with the relevant authorities. Technicians and emergency services are on site,' Lufthansa added.
The relatively fuel-efficient 787 is a recent addition to the Lufthansa fleet. The group is gradually replacing older jets with this model.
