SES has announced an agreement to provide Petrobras with services via its high-capacity O3b mPOWER medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite network, aimed at connecting several new floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) units.
These projects are set to enter service over the coming years, bolstering the Brazilian national oil company's production capacity to meet domestic energy demand and contribute to global oil markets.
FPSOs are advanced, high-performance oil production platforms responsible for processing, collecting, storing, and transferring oil to shuttle tankers directly from subsea wells located in deep waters.
'Operational since 2024, the high-performance, carrier-grade, low-latency, and open-standard O3b mPOWER MEO network is ideal for energy market applications, particularly FPSO connectivity', SES stated.
'The ability to transform real-time information into faster, more informed decisions, thereby generating substantial efficiency gains, is a crucial factor for the offshore oil and gas industry', the satellite operator explained.
