BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - Germany international Nico Schlotterbeck says he plans to set himself a timeframe for deciding his future at Borussia Dortmund. "I do think I will set myself a deadline at some point," the 26-year-old said after Dortmund's 3-0 win at Union Berlin. "I'm someone who follows his gut. I will make a decision at some point, but I'm not going to tell you when that deadline is."

Together with his father and his brother Keven, who is also a professional footballer, he will ultimately make a fundamental decision. This will happen before the summer, he added on Sky.

Schlotterbeck's contract in Dortmund runs until June 30, 2027. Borussia Dortmund are eager to extend his deal, but so far no agreement has been reached. Schlotterbeck has also been linked with Bayern Munich, although Bayern are also looking to extend with Dayot Upamecano.

BVB CEO Lars Ricken commented on a possible extension for Schlotterbeck: "At a time when more and more players are moving on ever more quickly, it would of course be a tremendous signal." Not many centre-backs become the face of a club. "Here at BVB, we had Mats Hummels and Jürgen Kohler. So naturally, we wish and hope that he stays with us." Head coach Niko Kovac told Sky he had a positive feeling./dav/DP/zb
