Rheinmetall said it agreed to supply the German army with nine training simulators for Puma tanks after the Bundeswehr placed a multibillion-dollar order for 200 of the fighting vehicles in December
The arms maker said Friday that it struck a deal to supply the training systems for 118.5 million euros ($138.2 million), having last month clinched a corresponding delivery contract alongside partner KNDS valued at around 4.2 billion euros for the Puma Infantry Fighting Vehicles.
The total value of the training-simulator deal is 119.5 million euros, with the lion's share going to Rheinmetall, which developed the firing and combat training system.
Delivery of the battlefield simulators is scheduled for the middle of 2027, Rheinmetall said. The devices will speed up the training of troops on how to use the tanks, it said.
The order for 200 Puma vehicles, announced on Dec. 19, came as Europe ramps up defense spending amid heightened tensions with Russia.
