As long as housing remains a commodity, poverty remains a business model. As long as Vonovia and its peers distribute dividends, tenants will foot the bill. The figures in the study are proof: the rental housing market is failing. What is needed is not yet another reform of the rent brake. What is needed is a rent cap - nationwide and permanent. Furthermore, an expansion of municipal and non-profit housing is required. And last but not least, the expropriation of large real estate corporations. This is not a crime; it is social self-defense. Millions of tenants have long been living at their breaking point.
