DORTMUND (dpa-AFX) - Lothar Matthäus has recommended that Nico Schlotterbeck remain at Borussia Dortmund. "BVB is currently third in the league and remains a strong contender in both the Champions League and the Cup. Schlotterbeck has worked hard at Borussia and is highly valued," wrote the record national player in his Sky column.
"Certainly, he could earn more elsewhere, but in Dortmund he is captain, and BVB is a fantastic project," Matthäus added. "If I were in his position, I would think very carefully about whether to leave the club or stay."
Schlotterbeck's contract in Dortmund runs until June 30, 2027. The club is eager to extend his deal, but so far, no agreement has been reached. Schlotterbeck has also been linked with FC Bayern Munich./lar/DP/zb
