Silver futures jumped 11% to $77.37 a troy ounce, registering their biggest ever one-day gain. Shares of Hecla Mining and rival Pan American Silver rose, and both have more than doubled for the year to date.

Gold futures rose 1% to $4370.10 an ounce, within 3.5% of all-time highs. Among gold miners, Newmont and Barrick rose.
