Producers of metals and other raw materials fell as a torrid run for precious metals paused.
Silver futures dropped 4% for the session, but remained 11% higher for the week, closing at $9.21 a troy ounce.
The State Street Materials Select Sector SPDR exchange-traded fund, which tracks the materials group of the S&P 500, is up about 12% from a low point in October as metals prices surge while potential rate cuts and a mega-merger between copper miners Rio Tinto and Glencore float on the horizon.
