BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - High door thresholds or deep bathtubs: homeowners looking to remove domestic obstacles can apply for government subsidies starting Wednesday (April 8). According to the Federal Ministry of Construction, the KfW banking group has allocated 50 million euros for this purpose this year.
The program, titled "Barrier Reduction - Investment Grant," funds projects such as the removal of door sills or the installation of walk-in showers and elevators. For individual measures, grants of up to 10 percent of eligible costs are available, capped at 2,500 euros. Those renovating a property to meet the "Age-Appropriate House" standard can receive 12.5 percent of eligible costs, up to a maximum of 6,250 euros.
Property owners and tenants can apply for funding through the KfW grant portal before commencing their projects./vsr/DP/men
