(Alliance News) - Leonardo Spa announced on Tuesday a significant milestone in the development of the Michelangelo Security Dome, Italy's new integrated defense system unveiled less than ten days ago.
On December 3, the first qualification launch of the SAMP/T NG missile system was successfully completed, equipped with Leonardo's latest-generation KRONOS Grand Mobile High Power radar sensor.
The radar, built on a multifunctional AESA architecture, tracked the target and guided the missile to interception at a distance never before achieved by the Eurosam SAMP/T system during ground tests, confirming its status as Europe's best-in-class sensor for air and missile defense.
The group emphasizes that this advancement strengthens the path toward realizing the Italian Michelangelo Security Dome, designed with a dynamic and open architecture and positioned to lead the integration of a European Dome against aerial and missile threats.
Leonardo's shares are up 3.2%, trading at EUR49.75 per share.
