The program, launched under 'Horizon Europe' in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), aims to support new in-orbit activities such as assembly, maintenance, logistics, recycling, and space debris removal, according to a company statement.
Specifically, the Scope satellite, developed with industrial partners including Airbus, Indra, and GMV, will be designed for specific applications such as inspection, repositioning, robotic manipulation, and refueling of other satellites.
'From a strategic perspective, Scope will help strengthen European technological sovereignty, resilience, and competitiveness', the statement emphasized.
Also within the Isos framework, Thales Alenia Space, the joint venture between Leonardo and France's Thales, has been selected to develop the other satellite, 'Eross Sc'.
Furthermore, Leonardo will contribute to the 'Host' orbital platform of the Eprime consortium, led by The Exploration Company, as the party responsible for defining robotic systems for docking and in-orbit logistics operations.
