The Canadian dollar strengthened against the greenback on Tuesday, and the yield on benchmark government debt slipped. The loonie was trading 0.1% higher at C$1.3728 to the greenback, or 72.84 U.S. cents, after trading in a range of 1.3725 to 1.3747. Canadian government 10-year bond yields fell 2.3 basis points to 3.061%. The yield on similar U.S. government benchmark debt fell to 3.8807%. U.S. September crude futures fell 31 cents to $79.75 a barrel on Tuesday.
