MARBELLA (dpa-AFX) - Borussia Dortmund is not planning any new signings this winter. As sporting director Sebastian Kehl confirmed at the training camp in Marbella, only player departures are expected before the end of the transfer window in early February. "In recent years, we have often made moves in winter because, on the one hand, we had to deal with injuries. This year, things are different," Kehl said on Monday, a day off from training.
The last time BVB did not sign a player in winter was four years ago; in the years since, current regulars such as Daniel Svensson and Julian Ryerson, as well as future world-class players like Erling Haaland (now at Manchester City), have joined after the turn of the year.
Duranville Could Still Be Loaned Out
"Of course, we still want to get better. And we are considering whether we can achieve that on the squad side. But in the end, it also has to make sense, be financially viable, and fit into the structure," Kehl added. BVB had already ruled out bringing in a replacement for Pascal Groß, who returned to Brighton & Hove Albion. In addition to Cole Campbell, who was loaned to TSG Hoffenheim, Julien Duranville could also still be loaned out.
The 19-year-old winger, signed from RSC Anderlecht for 8.5 million euros three years ago, has yet to make a breakthrough in Dortmund, partly due to several injuries. "That's why I'm in talks, but at the moment there's nothing to report," Kehl said. "It would definitely make sense for him to get more playing time."/lap/DP/zb
