GomSpace has secured a significant contract valued at EUR 760,000 (SEK 8.5 million) with the European Space Agency (ESA) to accelerate the development of its next-generation Attitude and Orbit Control Software (AOCS) to be rolled-out in the next 18 months. This contract marks a pivotal step in advancing satellite positioning and orientation capabilities for both commercial and governmental space missions. With a proven track record spanning over 75 satellite missions, GomSpace will leverage its extensive expertise to develop a state-of-the-art AOCS platform.
The forthcoming software will offer enhanced maintainability aimed at improving long-term support and maintenance to ensure operational reliability. It will also enable greater flexibility to accommodate evolving mission profiles and requirements. Thanks to GomSpace advanced testing capabilities, robust support for meticulous testing and simulation, including hardware-in-the-loop methodologies will allow to make this project a success.
This initiative is supported through ESA's General Support Technology Programme (GSTP), following a competitive selection process. The project is funded by Denmark's national contribution to ESA and aligns with the Danish Space Strategy updated in November 2024, specifically "Initiative 9: Efforts to commercialize Danish space research and technology development." The Danish government's increased funding for ESA technology development programs, announced in January 2025, further underscores the nation's commitment to fostering innovation in the space sector. The new AOCS software will not only enhance GomSpace's standalone product offerings but will also serve as a foundational element within the company's comprehensive satellite platform solutions.
These solutions are designed to meet the stringent demands of customers seeking state-of-the-art capability and reliability in space systems.
