France issued 8 billion euros ($9.52 billion) in a new May 2057-dated government bond, known as OAT, attracting strong demand in a syndicated transaction on Wednesday, one of the lead manager banks said.

Books for the new ultralong bond closed above 135 billion euros, including 2.45 billion euros in joint lead-manager interest, the same bank said.

The spread on the bond was set at 4 basis points above the May 2056 OAT. The new bond has a 4.40% coupon and it was priced at 99.329, at a yield of 4.439%, the same bank said.

BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole CIB, J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley and Societe Generale were joint lead managers of the transaction.

This was France's second syndicated bond transaction this year. On Jan. 14, France issued 10 billion euros in a new May 2046-dated OAT, with books closing in excess of 106 billion euros.
