Videos showed the blaze sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky, with flames stretching across a long section of a multi-story building, with fire trucks and police deployed to the scene.
Reuters confirmed the location from buildings, utility poles and road layout which matched file and satellite imageries. Coordinates of the parking garage: 22.678346864296856, 114.34647355553128. The date of the footage was confirmed by statements from BYD and authorities. BYD confirmed in a statement that a fire broke out at a parking garage in its Shenzhen industrial park on Tuesday morning.
BYD shares were down 0.6% at 0208 GMT.
A local fire and rescue department reported the fire incident earlier.
According to experts, EVs burn differently than cars with internal combustion engines, with fires often lasting longer and being harder to extinguish as they have a tendency to reignite.
