(Alliance News) - Fincantieri Spa announced on Thursday that it has signed an agreement with Princess Cruises for the construction of three new Voyager-class cruise ships powered by liquefied natural gas.
The order was formalized during the Seatrade Cruise Global event currently underway in Miami, according to the company's press release.
The vessels will be built at Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard, with deliveries scheduled for 2035, 2038, and 2039 respectively.
Each ship will have a gross tonnage of approximately 183,000 tons and will be able to accommodate around 4,700 passengers.
The new units will be primarily powered by LNG, the company specified, "the most advanced fuel technology currently available on an industrial scale, capable of ensuring an immediate reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a significant decrease in pollutant emissions compared to traditional marine fuels."
