(Alliance News) - ERG Spa has launched its first storage plant in Vicari, in the province of Palermo, marking its entry into the storage systems sector.

As reported by MF-Milano Finanza on Thursday, the new Bess plant, developed and built by Nhoa Energy, has a power output of 12.5 MW and a nominal capacity of 50 MW, with a charge and discharge cycle of approximately four hours. Equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries, the system is connected to Erg's electrical substation, which also connects the 37.5 MW Vicari and 46.8 MW Roccapalumba wind farms.

CEO Paolo Merli explained that the project represents "a test bed for acquiring operational expertise in a technology that will increasingly be part of our development plans" and will be managed using internally developed digital tools. Merli added that the company is working on a pipeline of new projects in Italy, the UK, and Spain, some of which are already at an advanced stage.
