Shares of energy companies rallied on the outlook for interest rates and demand.

The price of Russian oil recently traded at its biggest discount to Brent since 2023, and oil tankers sat idle in various seas, as the latest round of U.S. sanctions on Russian oil producers Lukoil and Rosneft hit home.

Harbour Energy is exploring both offshore and onshore merger-and-acquisition opportunities in the U.S. as its production base shifts toward the western Atlantic in the coming years, its chief executive said.

U.S. natural gas futures rose ahead of the weekend, in anticipation of cold weather in much of the U.S.
