STORY: Israeli forces launched deadly strikes in Gaza on Sunday, in continued violence that underscored the fragility of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.

In the southern city of Khan Younis, an airstrike killed a top police official of the area, as well as his aide, according to Gaza's Hamas-run interior ministry.

While medics said another deadly strike hit the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza.

Reuters has previously reported on heightened Israeli attacks on the enclave's Hamas-run ?police force, which the militant group has used to re-establish governance in areas under its control.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on either incident.

At a funeral for the policemen, mourners accused Israel of trying to create chaos and confusion in Gaza.

"Although the ceasefire came into effect several months ago, the occupiers continue to target the police officers in order to cause chaos," Ali Mousa Dababesh said.

A relative of the deceased police official denounced the ongoing strikes by Israel as "cowardly assassinations".

"Every day we lose children, we lose elders, we lose young people," Ziad Abdel-Hadi said.

Violence in Gaza has persisted despite the October 2025 ceasefire, with Israel conducting almost daily attacks.

At least 850 Palestinians have been killed since then, local medics say.

While Israel says militants have killed four of its soldiers over the same period.

Israel and Hamas have blamed each other for violations of the ceasefire.
