Canadian Pacific Kansas City posted lower profit and revenue in its fiscal first quarter.

The Calgary, Alberta-based railroad operator on Wednesday posted a profit of $846 million Canadian dollars, or the equivalent of about $618.2 million USD, compared with C$910 million in the same quarter a year earlier. On a per-share basis, CPKC's profit came in at 94 cents, compared with 97 cents a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings were C$1.04 a share. Analysts polled by FactSet expected C$1.07 a share.

Revenue decreased 2% to C$3.7 billion. Analysts estimated C$3.75 billion.

Its operating ratio, a closely watched figure that measures the percentage of revenue consumed by expenses, increased to 66% from 65.3%.
