Consumer companies fell slightly as traders hedged their bets on the sustainability of American shoppers' spending.
Major lenders such as JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo indicated that they saw no signs of a slowdown in consumer spending, but rising prices at the grocery store and elsewhere are likely to constrain household budgets further.
Walmart will reshuffle its leadership team when John Furner takes over as chief executive next month, elevating a group of longtime executives as the retailer navigates a complex consumer and government landscape.
