Communications-services companies fell as traders weighed the likelihood of a wave of consolidation continuing.
Netflix rose after analysts at brokerage Benchmark said the streaming service stood to gain whether or not it closed its proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. An acquisition would give Netflix a "dominant" position, with pricing leverage, said Benchmark, but a failure would mollify investors wary of the inauspicious history of media mergers.
A growing number of companies are facing ransom demands from hackers who stole sensitive data through security flaws in widely-used Oracle business software nearly six months ago.
