DORTMUND (dpa-AFX) - After just six months, defender Aarón Anselmino is leaving Borussia Dortmund and returning to Chelsea FC. The English Premier League club has activated a corresponding clause, allowing the 20-year-old Argentinian, who was only on loan, to return to London early. The Bundesliga club confirmed this on Monday.
BVB had only loaned the centre-back last summer, originally until June 30, 2026. Anselmino was brought in to address personnel shortages in defense and impressed when he played. However, due to injuries, the defender was repeatedly sidelined and only made his comeback on Saturday in the 3-0 win at Union Berlin. In total, he made six league appearances for BVB and scored one goal.
Now Dortmund must unexpectedly let the player go a week before the end of the transfer window. Chelsea is currently facing its own personnel issues in defense due to injuries./kam/DP/jha
