Bayer's $7.25 Billion U.S. Settlement Over Roundup Sent Back to Missouri Court

Bayer's Monsanto said a U.S. federal judge had sent a $7.25 billion U.S. settlement over its Roundup weedkiller back to the Missouri State Court.

The German pharmaceutical and agricultural conglomerate proposed the settlement in February to resolve claims alleging that Roundup causes cancer, with payments to be made over two decades but front-loaded to this year.

Plaintiffs sought to move the settlement to a federal court in California, but the company said earlier this month that the class settlement case should be remanded to Missouri State Court.

Monsanto said Wednesday that the decision from a federal judge to remand the settlement back to the Missouri State Court brought much-needed clarity to all parties and would allow the class approval process to move forward.

"Monsanto remains confident that the class settlement, which is supported by plaintiffs' counsel representing tens of thousands of potential class members, is fair to all parties and the objections have no merit," the company said.
