Apple is lowering the fees it collects from app developers in China following discussions with local regulators.
The commission rate for standard Apple in-app purchases and paid app transactions will be reduced to 25% from 30% starting March 15, the company said Thursday.
For qualified in-app purchase transactions that are part of Apple's program for small businesses and developers of mini apps, or smaller applications that operate within a larger "super app" such as Tencent's WeChat, the commission rate will be lowered to 12% from 15%, the U.S. tech giant said.
The cut that Apple collects from app developers, which goes up to 30%, has sparked backlash from regulators around the world in recent years.
Apple amended its rate for commissions in the European Union to as low as 10% in 2024 following regulatory pressure.
China is the third-largest market by overall sales for Apple, after Americas and Europe.
