Dec 9 (Reuters) - London-listed miner Anglo American said on Tuesday that its shareholders have approved its merger with Canada's Teck Resources, paving the way for the creation of a copper heavyweight within the mining sector.

The company said 99.17% of votes cast at the general meeting were in favour of the merger.
