Altria Group has signed a deal with South Korean tobacco conglomerate KT&G to collaborate on long-term growth opportunities with oral nicotine products and non-nicotine products.
The Richmond, Va., tobacco company said Tuesday that under the non-binding global collaboration memorandum of understanding with KT&G, the companies will also work together on enhancing operating efficiencies in the traditional tobacco category.
"We believe the complementary market experience and capabilities of our two companies can accelerate the pursuit of our long-term adjacent growth goals across international regions and adjacent product categories," Chief Executive Billy Gifford said.
The two companies plan to collaborate and contribute their respective resources toward expanding global demand for nicotine pouch products. Those efforts may include an expansion of Altria's on! and on! PLUS lines of oral nicotine pouches to select countries.
As an early step of that effort, an Altria subsidiary has agreed to take an ownership interest in Another Snus Factory Stockholm, owner of the Loop nicotine pouch brand, when KT&G acquires that company.
An Altria subsidiary will also work with KT&G's ginseng subsidiary, Korea Ginseng, to jointly explore opportunities in the U.S. within the growing energy and wellness segment.
