The 2025 trading year is drawing to a close, and tomorrow marks the start of the so-called Santa Claus Rally – covering the final five trading days of the year plus the first two trading days of the new year.

The Santa Claus Rally, as it is also known, delivered a return of -1.0 percent for the OMXS30 index last year. The year before, it posted a decrease of 1.2 percent, while the two years prior showed gains of 2.3 and 5.2 percent, respectively. The average for the past ten years stands at a modest increase of just 0.2 percent.

Wall Street kicks off the Santa Claus period on Wednesday, December 24, since the U.S. markets remain open on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, and New Year's Eve.
