The podcast company Acast will, this spring, become one of the first players to collaborate with Apple on the distribution of video podcasts via HLS to Apple Podcasts.

This partnership means that Acast can distribute and commercialize video content on behalf of creators on the platform.

At launch, ART19 from Amazon, Triton's Omny Studio, as well as SiriusXM with AdsWizz and Simplecast, will also participate. According to Acast CEO Greg Glenday, the initiative is a decisive step that broadens opportunities for creators and advertisers, and strengthens the company's role as a growth engine within modern podcasting. No financial details have been disclosed.

With this move, Apple is stepping up competition against players like YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify, CNBC reports.

“Twenty years ago, Apple helped make podcasting mainstream by adding podcasts to iTunes, and more than a decade ago, we introduced the dedicated Apple Podcasts app,” says Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services.

“Today marks an important milestone in that journey. By offering a category-leading video experience in Apple Podcasts, we are giving creators full control over their content and how they build their businesses, while making it easier than ever for audiences to listen to or watch podcasts.”
